How To File An LLC

How To File An LLC

Many businesses start out as a sole proprietor and perhaps it is because that's all we know. But did you know that it is just as easy to set your business up as an LLC? Not only that, you can do it yourself! It is common to get a lawyer to handle these types of filings but typically when Black Owne companies are formed, they are on a shoestring budget.

However, just because you don't have a big budget, it doesn't stop you from doing things in a big way. Here is how to file an LLC.

Go to your official state website. SOS Direct is where you want to be. From here you can perform a search and if your business isn't listed, you can complete the application  to file your business as an LLC. In many states you can file online. There will be a fee listed on the site or on the application, usually around $300 and it will take about 30 days to receive your formal documentation back. You will be added to the State database and your business can be searched for on their site once your registration is complete.

Once you register your LLC, you will need to begin doing business under the LLC. You will need to change your bank account to reflect the updated entity. You will also need to file for a new EIN. You will need to include your entity start date as the date your LLC was approved. This is important because your name being correct makes a difference when doing business with various organizations.

Whenever searching for an official website, be sure the website address contains a .gov or uses one of the formats below. We have included some links for various states and will add more as we get them.
